KINGDOM CULTURE: HONOUR

Talk by Jo Lee | November 2025

Honour means recognising the God-given value in every person and treating them accordingly. Biblical honour is rooted in design, not behaviour — every human is made in the image of God and carries worth. We honour because God first honoured us through Christ, raising us, loving us, and calling us His children. Jesus shows perfect honour in His encounter with the Samaritan woman, seeing her, valuing her, and revealing truth that transformed her life and her entire town. We live this culture by:

(1) Seeing the Value in every person

(2) Revealing the Value through encouragement, love, service, and speaking life.

Let’s do this

Now let’s take a few moments to pause, consider what stood out to you, and allow the Holy Spirit to speak into your life.

Some thoughts to consider.

  1. Where is it hardest for you to ‘see the value’ in others? Think about environments, people groups or situations where judgment comes more naturally than honour.

  2. Reflect on how Jesus has honoured you. How has receiving God’s love changed the way you view others?

  3. Have you had a negative experience when it comes to ‘honour’? If this is the first time that you have heard Honor spoken in this way and it is contrary to your experience, today is the day that you can begin to work that through with Jesus. Laying the person or persons at His feet and choosing to forgive them. We forgive because Jesus forgave us first. It could be that you need to talk this through with someone you trust to help guide you, led by the Holy Spirit, into freedom. You may want to do this now in your quiet place - just you and your Heavenly Father. Be honest about your feelings and allow the Holy Spirit to heal and refresh you as you lay it at His feet and forgive.

Jesus, I come before You today, You know my experience. You know my hurt and how I have not received honour well. You know my confusion, the pressure, the disappointment, and the pain.

Lord, I lay that experience at Your feet now. Every word that felt heavy. Every expectation that felt wrong. Every feeling of shame, pride, fear, or hurt. I give it all to You.

If I received honour in a way that was not from You, forgive me.
If I believed things about myself that were not true,
forgive me. If bitterness, pride, or distrust has grown in my heart,
forgive me and cleanse me.
